PRICE INCREASE FOR MELT-BLOWN FABRIC DURING THE COVID-19 CRISIS

The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated how fragile our supply chain for vital personal protective equipment is.

One of the main reasons is the bottleneck regarding the material used for the manufacturing of face and surgical masks. 

Melt-blown fabric from polypropylene is difficult to make and expensive. Expanding capacity requires a lot of capital and takes months and requires a lot of investments, not mentioning its devastating effect on the environment as it takes more than 400 years to biodegrade.

Paper is naturally a great filter but its hydrophilicity made it difficult to be used for mask manufacturing. However, chromatogeny and our patent-pending material solve this issue while providing similar performances than the melt-blown fabric.

Our approach has been validated by third-party certification labs that handle ASTM and EU standards. Our prototypes have achieved medical grade liquid barrier and satisfied filtration and breathability requirements.

LOW COST MATERIAL

We have demonstrated that the cost of a paper treated by Chromatogeny satisfying all EU standards for surgical masks would cost only $0.005 per mask to produce.

LOCAL PRODUCTION

Paper is widely available pretty much everywhere on the planet. This considerably diminishes the reliability on foreign powers and diminishes geopolitical tensions.   

THE ONLY SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION

Our patented process preserves all the recyclability and biodegradability properties of the paper. It’d take just few weeks in a landfill for the material to biodegrade vs hundreds of years of a melt-blown fabric one.

SRTONG LIQUID BARRIER

Contrary to cloth masks, paper treated by chromatogeny offers a very strong liquid barrier that stops contaminated droplets. Third-party lab tests have demonstrated it performs as well as melt-blown fabrics. 

EU & ASTM STANDARDS

Third-party lab tests have shown that our prototypes matches EU & ASTM standards in terms of filtration, breathability and liquid barrier.

NOT ONLY FOR MASKS

The same material can be used for several other types of equipment such as gowns on single-use gloves.
